Needlewoman & Needlecraft originally started out as two separate publications: The Needlecraft Practical Journal started out in 1907 and The Needlewoman was born in 1919. The two amalgamated in 1940 and continued until 1970 when it was incorporated into Stitchcraft.

Smaller in size than its predecessors, this amalgamated version focused on a number of different needlework techniques, and offered it’s readers a series of patterns to follow.

I feel these little gems have been a little neglected in the vintage craft magazine rush which may be due to their rather traditional embroidered covers which belie a wealth of lovely craft projects inside.

Coming in at 61 pages, it really packs the patterns in and there are some really gorgeous knitting and sewing projects showcasing classic 1950s design. They didn't shy away from hefty work either - light carpentry projects including a dining table and children's play cottage are included.

Knitting projects include jumpers, a bedjacket, cardigans, stoles, gent's lumberjacket, children's clothing.
